Today the traditional Catholic Church also has a Mass in honor of, Saints Maurice and his Companions, and Martyrs. The Theban Legion of the Emperor Maximian, composed of about 5000 soldiers, was commanded by Maurice. For refusing to pay tribute to the pagan gods these Christian soldiers were martyred for their true Faith in the year 286.
